Montessori 101 is a one week session offered August 11-15, 2008 prior to the new school year. This class is for new, primary students and their parents. We have designed a program to help these children make an easier transition to daily life at JMS.
Every day of Montessori 101, students enjoy music, stories, motor skills activities, and a nutritious snack. Some basic Montessori lessons are introduced, including those in grace and courtesy.
Students also have the opportunity to learn and practice the routines of "drop off" and "dismissal." For morning "drop off," each day at 8:55 a.m. parents drive up to the front of the school, where the teacher is waiting to meet the children. The teacher opens the passenger-side door and assists each child in getting out of the car. Parents pick up their children in the same way, curbside, at 11:45 a.m.
On Sunday, August 10 at 2:00 p.m. we offer an Open House for parents and students to meet the class teacher(s) for the week and to see the classroom. The children will have an opportunity to work with the teacher while parents will meet with the Parent, Student, Staff Liaison at which time they will have an opportunity to cover classroom procedures, routines, and to review goals for the week.
